Theo+Theo Spark Festival Masterclass: How Living Technology is changing everything

James Theophane joins the 2016 Spark Festival masterclass roster to talk Living Technology, innovation and how a riot in Hong Kong and NASA’s interplanetary internet technology came together to solve the Australian Outback’s cellular black spot woes.

To better understand and evaluate present social, cultural, and technological conditions architects, designers, and artists often utilise speculative technology or science fiction to consider “what if” and project future possibilities. Discover the unexpected relationships between ferret-like living billboards crawling through our cities after dusk and new generation digital screens powered by bacteria.

In this masterclass we look at the materials and technologies available today that sound straight of the science fiction, and find out what we can learn from them, and how they can influence our designs, installations, art and architecture.

Join us as we uncover the weird and wonderful world of Living Technology and discover why biomimicry, energy harvesting, automation, AI, and nanotechnology can be used as ad tools for today’s creatives, designers, and architects.
